Cactus uses MPI to run on parallel machines.  You can use a Globus- 
aware MPI library when you build Cactus, or you can use Globus to  
start a Cactus application.  The flesh (core) of Cactus is  
independent of Globus, but there may be thorns which use Globus to  
implement additional features.
