In many places people become aware of the shortcomings of CVS and  
switch to other version control systems.  One very common alternative  
these days seems to be svn (subversion), which is about as easy to  
use as cvs.  I think it would be worthwhile looking at the svn web  
pages and reading its description.  Of course, there are also other  
alternatives, so please take this as a "by the way", not as an actual  
recommendation.
