[Patches] new command line option '--logdir <dir>'

This patch adds a new command line option '--logdir <dir>'. It is a long 
option, there is no equivalent short option for it. The mandatory 
argument <dir> sets the output directory for logfiles created by the 
'-r' option (which redirects stdout/stderr messages into logfiles).
